About the Cluj Rally and Organizers

Cluj is, along with Brașov and Sibiu, one of the strongest poles of local motoring. The Cluj Rally, under different names and configurations, has a tradition of over 45 years, the first edition taking place in 1975.

Over the years it has been organized by several sports clubs, both in the asphalt version and in the macadam version, in some years, more prolific, Cluj even having the privilege to host 2 stages of the National Rally Championship, in different configurations.

In the period 2003-2009 the Cluj Rally was organized by the Sports Club “Savu Racing”, under the auspices of the Romanian Federation of Sports Motorsport (FRAS), with the support of the Cluj County Council, the Local Council and the City Hall of Cluj-Napoca; Created in this asphalt variant, starting with 2004, the Cluj Rally wanted, from the beginning, to be a launching pad for the municipality of Cluj-Napoca and Cluj County on the stage of the European Rally Championship, with all the benefits deriving from this approach: promoting our cultural and sports heritage. In this sense, the organizing club took the first steps in 2009, registering for the first time, after 2004, a stage of the National Rally Championship in the International Sports Calendar. The queen competition of Romanian motorsport will have a total of 11 stages in the 2021 season, and will cover most of the country’s regions. Last season, the National Rally Championship gathered over 200 athletes at the start, including with international participation, several stages being included in the European Rally Trophy calendar.

The rally stages take place over long distances, covering several localities during the three days of competition, all 11 stages benefiting from live broadcasts on the Look TV channel, FRAS partner.

In 2021, the Cluj Rally returns to the organization of the Savu Racing Sports Club with the 10th anniversary edition, which will count as the 5th stage of the National Rally Championship

The Cluj event of the 2011 Dunlop National Rally Championship has a long tradition and is viewed by the Cluj people as the main auto manifestation of the year from a media point of view as well as from the perspective of the attendance of the amateur spectators. The faultless organization and the quality entries have been constantly raising the standard of the event and currently recommend it as a useful means of promotion.

Following the acquired experience in this field of organizing motorsport competitions, our target is to raise the level of the competition to the highest standards, this being possible due to the support granted by a great number of motorsport fans together with former champions of this sporting discipline.

The current level reached by the evolution of the CNR allows us to state that the Cluj event of this championship can be the central sporting event of the year in our county, since it involves a number of over 500 sportspeople, mechanics, officials, team managers, sponsors as well as an estimated number of over 20,000 spectators.

Besides organizing championship events, the Savu Racing Sports Club as an active part in the auto phenomena has one more focus in its activity, supporting the participation of some teams and/or crews in the 2011 Dunlop National Rally Championship as well as in the 2011 Dunlop National Hillclimb Championship.
